The First Diva of Vietnamese Pop Music - Ngoc Lan Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Ngoc Lan was queen of the Vietnamese pop music industry and was adored by millions of Vietnamese fans from all over the world. At the height of her popularity, Ngoc Lan became stricken with Multiple Sclerosis which prevented her from continuing with her music career and ultimately claim her life on March 6, 2001. I had the privilege to know and love her personally. Here is my tribute to Ngoc Lan.

Why This Song? I love chi Ngoc Lan. But this was clearly not one of her best performances. She just wasn't feeling either the music or the song. It was very obvious that she was really bored halfway through singing this song. I guess she needed to do an uptempo song to change the pace of her performance during the show. And definitely, this was not one of those songs that she would pour her heart and soul into. I'm no different than most of her fans. If I had been in the audience that night, I 'm sure I would still enjoy watching her sing this song because I loved her so much and to me, she could do no wrong. But out of all the songs she probably had sung that night, I'm really surprised that her performance of this song would be chosen to be uploaded for everyone to see. Clearly, this doesn't capture Ngoc Lan at her very best. Since this was around 1992, right after the releases of her wildly successful solo music videotapes which featured fantastic songs she had recorded such as "Khi Co Chang (Je Ne Suis Que de L'amour)", "Lai Gan Hon Em (Viens M'embrasser)" and "Tieng Mua Dem", I'm sure she would include these songs at her live shows. And there is no doubt in my mind that when she did sing any of these songs at her live shows, she would mesmerize the audience and just put everyone in a trance with her amazing talents.
